{"id":284890,"date":"2020-11-25T16:28:05","date_gmt":"2020-11-25T19:28:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=284890"},"modified":"2020-11-25T16:29:06","modified_gmt":"2020-11-25T19:29:06","slug":"arab-house-to-host-webinar-on-immigration-to-brazil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/arab-house-to-host-webinar-on-immigration-to-brazil\/","title":{"rendered":"Arab House to host webinar on immigration to Brazil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Arab House is about to host its first-ever online event, the webinar \u2018Arab Immigration to Brazil: Analysis and Interpretations.\u2019 The debate is taking place next Monday (30) at 5 pm, and it will delve into a survey of the Arab and Arab descendant population in Brazil conducted by Ibope and H2R Pesquisas Avan\u00e7adas. The event is free of charge and <a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/webinar\/register\/WN_VhJPLfKgQ52WhIJKArbmRQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">registration is open<\/a>. Simultaneous translation into English will be available.<\/p>\n<p>In late October, the <strong>Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> (ABCC) announced the creation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/digital-version-of-arab-house-announced\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arab House<\/a>, \u2013 which is starting out as an online space devoted to Arab culture and immigration, but will potentially have brick-and-mortar facilities in the future. The concept was introduced during the ABCC\u2019s 68<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary celebrations last July \u2013 on which occasion the survey on immigration was released \u2013 and officially launched during the <a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/category\/brazil-arab-countries-forum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brazil &amp; Arab Countries Economic Forum<\/a> in October.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers in the webinar will be H2R Pesquisas Avan\u00e7adas director Alessandra Frisso; professor Salem Nasser, with a degree in International Law from the University of S\u00e3o Paulo; Federal University of S\u00e3o Carlos full professor and postgraduate professor of Sociology Oswaldo Truzzi; the director of the Latin American Studies and Cultures Center at Lebanon\u2019s Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, Roberto Khatlab; ABCC secretary-general Tamer Mansour, and ABCC president Rubens Hannun, who will moderate the discussions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first Arab House event ever, and we wish to showcase the relevance and the influence that Arab immigrants have had in Brazil on their way to becoming what they are today, which is 6% of the population. We wish to discuss this topic more and more each day,\u201d Tamer Mansour told ANBA. The event will go in-depth into the survey and the history of Arab immigrants in Brazil, from the beginning until now.<\/p>\n<p>The sampling showed that there are 11.6 million Arabs and Arab descendants in Brazil, which is tantamount to 6% of the population. Ten percent of the Arab population in Brazil are immigrants, i.e. originally from Arab countries. Out of the descendants, 20% are the children of immigrants, 41% are grandchildren, and 19% are great-grandchildren, and 20% are great-great-grandchildren. Grandchildren of immigrants are the majority.
