S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras announced last Friday (26th) that it has proven the existence of light oil in the well named 1-BRSA-658-SPS (1-SPS-57), in the southern portion of the Santos Basin, in the southeastern Brazilian coast. According to the company, the oil is located in sand reservoirs located above the salt layer. <\/p>\n
According to the company, this is the second discovery of light oil in the Santos Basin, which \u201cattests to the good potential for light oil at shallow depths in the basin.\u201d<\/p>\n
The well, according to the Petrobras, is located in a block 200 kilometres off the coast of the state of S\u00e3o Paulo, 100% owned by the company. The location of the first discovery made in the area, announced in May this year, is 9.3 kilometres away from the site. <\/p>\n
The reservoirs found are located at a depth of 2,060 metres. The size of the reserves and the potential for production are going to be assessed by testing. The company, however, has already estimated that the volume of recoverable oil contained in the area totals to 150 million barrels of oil equivalent. <\/p>\n
