S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Institute of Arab Culture (ICArabe) is accepting enrolments for the first three lessons of the online course \u201cThe Contributions of Arab-Islamic Civilization to Humanity: a Historical Outlook,\u201d starting February 25. The lessons will take place on Zoom, free of charge, and they will also air on the ICArabe\u2019s YouTube c<\/a>hannel. Pictured above is a mosque in Casablanca, Morocco.<\/em><\/p>\n

The course is designed to showcase the wealth of Arab culture in its various forms, including the history of medicine, math, physics, the arts, music, philosophy, and other fields of knowledge.<\/p>\n

The course will comprise roughly 20 lessons per week, each with a specific subject and a different professor, featuring renowned specialists from the biggest universities and institutions in the country.<\/p>\n

The lessons will be lectures followed by debates with the students, on Thursdays at 7 pm, throughout the first semester, up until July.<\/p>\n

Classes will be divided by thematic sections. The first three will cover Life Sciences (Part 1). The opening class, on February 25, will address The Contribution of Arabs to Medicine<\/a>, with PhD Murched Omar Taha of Unifesp. The second class, on March 4, will be on Arabs and the Development of Science<\/a>,with PhD Soraya Soubhi Smaili, Unifesp president and a full professor at the university’s Department of Pharmacology. The third class, on March 11, will delve into Biology and Environmental Sciences<\/a>, with PhD Mohamed Habib of Unicamp.<\/p>\n

Further lessons will cover Exact Sciences and Finance, Arts and Humanities, and Life Sciences (Part 2). A full list of lessons is available on the ICArabe website<\/a>. The course relies on support from the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/strong>, the Arab House and the Sleep Institute.<\/p>\n
