S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The women\u2019s committee of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> (ABCC), WAHI \u2013 Women Who Inspire, will host an online event on Monday (8), the International Women\u2019s Day to bring Arab and Brazilian women together. The webinar will feature speakers from Palestine and Lybia, women that play leading roles in their communities and countries. Registration<\/a> is open.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event \u201cArab Women Who Inspire\u201d is Libya\u2019s Hala Bugaighis, who founded a think tank that works for the economic development and inclusion of women in her country and created an incubator for women-owned businesses in Tripoli. Another special guest is Mayson Odeh, a Palestinian entrepreneur who created Nisaa FM, a radio station for women in her country, a pioneer, internationally renowned initiative.<\/p>\n

WAHI\u2019s chair says the group saw the International Women\u2019s Day as an opportunity to bring Arab and Brazilian women together, which is the committee\u2019s mission. \u201cWe\u2019ll have women who lead projects that stimulate the social development of other women in the Arab countries, said Alessandra Frisso, director at H2R, a polling institute that\u2019s an ABCC member.<\/p>\n

Frisso says that, just like WAHI, the event aims at showing the international relevance of the topic, demystify the role of the female figure in the Arab world and show that, just like Brazilians, Arab women are working to increase their participation in society. \u201cWe know some amazing projects they are leading there, just like those Bugaighis and Odeh will talk about in the webinar. There’re many women in leadership roles in several industries in the Arab countries,” Frisso recounts.<\/p>\n

This is WAHI\u2019s first International Women\u2019s Day as the group was created last July. In 2020, the committee hosted a series of actions, such as integration activities with other women\u2019s groups, debates on the women\u2019s issue in Brazil and the Arab world, and collaborating in initiatives carried out by ABCC, such as the humanitarian aid campaign for Lebanon.<\/p>\n
