S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Ambassador Carla Jazzar, charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires of the Embassy of Lebanon to Brazil, will meet with authorities and opinion makers from the Lebanese-Brazilian community to discuss possibilities for continued support to Lebanon\u2019s recovery. This will be the subject of the seminar \u2018United for Lebanon\u2019 on Tuesday, July 6, at 10:00 am BRT (4:00 pm EEST), which the public will be able to watch over the internet.<\/p>\n

The in-person event will occur at the S\u00e3o Paulo Commercial Association (ACSP), with participation restricted to guests. It will be broadcasted online via Zoom with translation into English and Portuguese. Registration is open to watch live on Zoom<\/a>. The audience can also watch the event on the YouTube Channel of the Brazil-Lebanon Chamber of Commerce (CCBL).<\/p>\n

The opening will feature speeches by former Brazilian president Michel Temer; the director of the Middle East Department of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sidney Leon Romeiro; and the president of the ACSP, Alfredo Cotait. Diplomat Carla Jazzar will speak with attending authorities and leaders, among them ambassador Osmar Chohfi, president of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> (ABCC). Questions from the audience will be answered at the end.<\/p>\n

Lebanon is experiencing an economic crisis that has been aggravated by the coronavirus pandemic and has led the Lebanese into a challenging and unprecedented situation with no medium-term solution.<\/p>\n

After the disaster at the Port of Beirut in August 2020, the Lebanese diaspora abroad responded promptly with emergency humanitarian actions. In Brazil, entities raised funds, made donations to hospitals, and sent food, medicine, and equipment. The Brazilian government also helped by sending a mission headed by former president Michel Temer.<\/p>\n

The event is organized by the Consulate General of Lebanon in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazil-Lebanon Chamber of Commerce, the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/strong>, and the S\u00e3o Paulo Commerce Association, with support from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n
