This information was supplied by Agência Sebrae. Sales were made by businesswoman Francisca Vieira and by brand The Cotton.

According to Agência Sebrae, around 500 items were shipped, mostly dresses, for US$ 50,000. The products will be sold at a chain of female clothes shops in Tokyo. After the first delivery, sales should go on, according to the agency.

Apart from Japan, Francisca Vieira and brands Rubra Rosa and Maria Chick signed another contract, for US$ 10,000, with brand O Açude, from Portugal. The order includes dresses, garments, shirts, shorts and trousers. In this case, the order was placed during the Madrid International Fashion Week, in Spain.

Coloured cotton was developed by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). In this variety the fibre is already born with the tones that will be used in the final production, avoiding the need for dyeing.

Embrapa used genetic improvement methods to obtain the coloured cotton and has already put on the market cultivars of brown, green, saphire and ruby cotton.

*Translated by Mark Ament

Two companies from Paraíba started exporting to Japan clothes made out of the fibre that is naturally coloured.
