Doha \u2013 Brazil has offered itself to integrate the Quartet, a group comprised of the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations (UN), which committed to mediate the peace process between Israel and Palestine. The intention was manifested this Tuesday (31st) at the Summit of South American-Arab Countries (Aspa), in Doha, Qatar. <\/p>\n
The idea enjoyed acceptance among the Arabs. \u201cWe are checking whether it is possible to expand the Quartet, for there are other countries, such as Brazil, India and South Africa, that are able to contribute,\u201d said the Palestinian minister of Foreign Relations, Riad Al Malik. \u201cThis may energize the action [of the group],\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The president of the League of Arab States, Amr Mussa, expressed his approval. \u201cWhenever president Lula presents an idea, I feel comfortable,\u201d declared Mussa, who also said that the possibility of Brazil joining the group is going to be looked into. \u201cThe problems of the Arabs are inside the hearts of the South Americans,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n
The Doha Declaration, a document resulting from the meeting of heads of state, clearly defends the establishment of a Palestinian state and the adoption of all UN resolutions concerning the Israeli occupation of Arab territories. The president of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, attended the Aspa Summit, in Doha.<\/p>\n
The declaration of the summit underscores convergences in various other areas, such as culture, dialogue between civilisations, sustainable development, science and technology, and education, as ANBA had informed prior to the event.<\/p>\n
