S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Halal products have the potential to go beyond the Islamic market and reach different consumers, believes the former president of Brazil, Michel Temer<\/strong> (pictured above<\/em>). The executive participated in the opening day of the Global Halal Brazil<\/strong> (GHB) business forum this Monday (6); the event runs until December 8. The event occurs in a hybrid format and can be followed online<\/a>, with simultaneous translation into Portuguese and English.<\/p>\n

The forum is organized by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and the Federation of Muslim Associations of Brazil (FAMBRAS Halal), sponsored by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).<\/p>\n

Temer received a tribute, delivered by the president of the ABCC, Osmar Chohfi, and the president of FAMBRAS Halal, Mohamed Zoghbi<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Temer highlighted the participation of Arab authorities in the opening of the forum and the partnership between public and private players to discuss the topic. \u201cThe initiative of this forum will spread the halal market worldwide, and this will collaborate greatly with Brazilian agribusiness<\/strong>,\u201d stated the former president.<\/p>\n

Of Lebanese descent, he believes the halal sector has room to expand, even within Brazil. \u201cI realize halal can be diffused more widely, and it can be spread not solely to Islamic states<\/strong> but others. [It is possible] to disseminate the advantages of all products linked to the halal system,\u201d said Temer in an interview after his speech.<\/p>\n

For him, disclosing aspects such as healthiness<\/strong> could be a strategy to open more doors in new consumer markets. \u201cHalal meat and products bring the idea of purified food, making it healthy. This concerns people\u2019s health. And if its quality is advertised, Brazilian consumers will likely want to consume it here too,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

Michel Temer gave the keynote speech at the event and spoke about other topics related to the halal world, such as the work by Brazilian institutions in the area. The former president has fostered relations between Brazil and the Arab countries in endeavors such as organizing humanitarian donations from Brazil to Lebanon in 2020 and participation in a business forum in Dubai, where the Expo 2020 universal exhibition has been taking place since October.<\/p>\n
