Expenditure during international trips reached the lowest level in 16 years.

In 2020, Brazilians had spent only USD 5.3 billion. In previous years, from 2008 through 2019, the average international travel spending was almost double, around USD 10 billion.

Worldwide, tourism and international travels were reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the last couple of years. Borders were closed, travel restrictions were announced, flights were cancelled, and dollar increased in value compared to real, among other things.

Reduced travels also resulted in less foreign visitors to Brazil. Foreign tourists have spent only USD 2.9 billion in Brazilian territory last year, down 3.1% from 2020.

Translated by Guilherme Miranda

©Mauro Pimentel/AFP

Expenditure during international trips reached only USD 5.2 billion in 2021, nearly half pre-pandemic levels.

[114
27482,37109,2637,27481,7899,27480,27484,27483,12204,39173
0":"post-306130","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"tag-appreciated-dollar","9":"tag-contas-externas-en","10":"tag-dollar","11":"tag-dollar-value","12":"tag-foreign-accounts","13":"tag-foreign-accounts-central-bank","14":"tag-international-travel-en","15":"tag-international-travels","16":"tag-overseas-spending","17":"tag-viagens-internacionais-en
Expenditure during international trips reached only USD 5.2 billion in 2021, nearly half pre-pandemic levels.
["GET
