S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Author, playwright and actress Najla Said<\/strong> (pictured<\/em>), daughter of the Palestinian intellectual Edward Said, <\/strong>who died in 2003, will speak to the Brazilian audience on the life and work of her father on March 26 at 6 pm (BRT) at the invitation of the Middle East Study and Research Group (GEPOM). The online event is free, and registration is open<\/a>. The talk will be moderated by GEPOM cofounder Monique Sochaczewski.<\/p>\n

Najla will also discuss how Edward Said is present in her book Looking for Palestine \u2013 Growing Up in An Arab-American Family<\/em>, published in 2013, where she discusses the challenges of negotiating her Arab identity and her experience as a second-generation immigrant in the United States.<\/p>\n

Edward W. Said was born in Jerusalem, Palestine<\/strong>, and was a professor at Columbia University in New York. He was one of the most outstanding thinkers of the Arab world. One of his most relevant books is Orientalism<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an event that will involve not only the academic thinking of Edward Said, a key author in Cultural Studies, but the influence that a father can have on his daughter\u2019s reflections on her status as an outsider,\u201d GEPOM cofounder Muna Omran told ANBA.<\/p>\n

The conversation will be conducted in English and there will be translation to Portuguese.<\/p>\n
