The projection was released this Thursday (7) by the Brazilian National Supply Company (CONAB). If confirmed, it will represent an expansion of 13.8 million tonnes compared to 2020/2021.

The forecast, however, is lower than the one informed in the company’s first survey, which projected a harvest of 288.6 million tonnes. According to CONAB, this drop in the projection is due to adverse weather conditions observed in the states of the South region and the Mid-South of Mato Grosso do Sul, with more significant losses in soybeans and maize.

Soybean production is expected to reach 122.4 million tonnes, a reduction of 11.4% compared to the previous harvest. The estimated maize output is 115.6 million tonnes, 32.7% higher than the last cycle. In the case of cotton, there could be a production of 2.83 million tonnes, 19.9% more than the previous harvest.

The projection is at 3.1 million tonnes for beans, 7.6% above the previous crop. Rice production is estimated at 10.5 million tonnes, 10.5% lower. Sowing is still developing for winter crops such as oats, canola, rye, barley, wheat, and triticale. Wheat is estimated to reach 7.9 million tonnes.

Translated by Elúsio Brasileiro

Igor Stevanovic/Science Photo/AFP

According to the Brazilian National Supply Company, 269.3 million tonnes of grains are expected to be harvested in Brazil in 2021/2022.
