In countries like <strong>Djibouti<\/strong>, where the agricultural production accounts for the largest share of exports, led in 2020 by items like palm oil, leguminous vegetables, living animals and sheep and goats, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiiraan.com\/op4\/2020\/oct\/180378\/meet_fihima_ismail_a_djiboutian_farmer_with_a_penchant_for_helping.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fahima Mohamed Ismail<\/a> (<em>pictured<\/em>), head of the women\u2019s cooperative <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DjibAgriculture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Restoring Hope<\/a><\/strong>, explains that it is imperative to expand possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrazil is a leading sugar exporter, and our country is a major buyer of sugar from Brazil. My country is like a desert, it\u2019s very hot, and we\u2019re still \u2018emerging.\u2019 This is a good opportunity for us to maybe strike some partnerships in technology. For Kalibata, partnerships in technology will also be key for advancing production in the continent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst of all, from an African perspective, we are part of ICA [International Cooperative Alliance-Africa], which Brazil is part of. We have a strong partnership between African and Latin American countries. Specifically between Brazil and the Sahel region, Brazil has a large expertise that hold a potential for great opportunities, and there\u2019re already institutional partnerships in place between Brazil and the African states. But there\u2019re also value-added technologies and business partnerships where Sahel could advance,\u201d she told ANBA.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_310051\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-310051\" style=\"width: 169px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-02-22-at-10.40.37.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-310053 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-02-22-at-10.40.37-169x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-02-22-at-10.40.37-169x300.jpeg 169w, https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-02-22-at-10.40.37.jpeg 562w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 169px) 100vw, 169px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-310051\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Ismail believes partnerships with Brazil could boost agricultural innovation in North Africa<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Similarities between some Brazilian regions like the Semiarid and the Sahel could also bring the country closer to North African states. \u201cI think it is a huge opportunity to share genetical materials as the climate is very similar between the two regions,\u201d Kalibata said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Access and financing for women<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Other female agricultural leader in the African continent is Elizabeth Nsimadala, president of the <strong>Pan Africa Farmers\u2019 Organization <\/strong>(PAFO). This hinders their access to credit facilities and rights like retirement. Nsimadala points out that the lack of access cuts down the number of women in leading positions, and so the cycle is perpetuated.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the executive believes it was important to create specific programs during the pandemic.
