S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Next week, sugar and alcohol industry professionals and leaders from Africa, the Caribbean, the Pacific and Brazil, are going to attend a meeting in the city of Ribeir\u00e3o Preto, in the interior of the state of S\u00e3o Paulo. Representatives of 16 different countries will attend the \u201cIntergovernmental Workshop on Sugar and Diversification,\u201d among them Sudan.<\/p>\n
The meeting is promoted by the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) and the international Sugar Organization (ISO) and will take place on Monday (8th) and Tuesday (9th). Most of the participating countries are producers of sugar or ethanol. Attendance has been confirmed by Barbados, Cuba, Jamaica, Guyana, the Ivory Coast, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda and the Fiji Islands, in addition to Sudan.<\/p>\n
At the meeting, which counts on support from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, the experience in sustainable ethanol manufacturing in Brazil will be presented. The workshops will be attended by the secretary of Production and Agroenergy at the ministry, Manoel Bertone, the director of CFC, Ali Mchumo, and the executive director of ISO, Peter Baron.<\/p>\n
Participants at the meeting are also going to visit Brazilian ethanol and sugar manufacturing plants, in the city of Jaboticabal, and technological centres of the industry, in Piracicaba, following the workshop, on June 10th and 11th. The meeting is a follow up to another large international debate turned to the segment, the Ethanol Summit, held this week in S\u00e3o Paulo, promoted by the S\u00e3o Paulo Sugarcane Agroindustry Union (\u00danica).<\/p>\n
