The figure is 29% higher than the volume of business generated in last year&#8217;s edition. More than 90 buyers from 28 countries attended the event.<\/p>\n<p> According to the manager of the International Business Centre of the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan), Jo\u00e3o Paulo Alc\u00e2ntara, in a release issued by the event&#8217;s organisers, the higher number of international buyers contributed to that result. A total of 45 guests were invited under the Texbrasil program, promoted through a partnership between the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (Abit) and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex), in addition to 53 spontaneous visitors. \u201cThe countries that placed the most orders were Greece, Portugal and Spain. One Greek buyer alone purchased 1,000 items for each of her 15 stores,\u201d said the manager.<\/p>\n<p> The event also resulted in good deals for the domestic market, with total sales of 461 million reals (US$ 236.7 million), growth of 4% over last year&#8217;s edition. Qualified public totalled to 12.500 people, 10% more than in June 2008.<\/p>\n<p> The event, which brought together 200 exhibitors from 12 Brazilian states plus the Federal District, provided opportunities for 20 brands that had never participated. The majority of exhibitors was from the state of Rio de Janeiro, with 51 brands, followed by Minas Gerais, with 17, and S\u00e3o Paulo, with 7.<\/p>\n<p> Companies that had orders placed by foreign buyers include Cavendish, Espa\u00e7o Fashion, and Datz. The fashion hub of Rio de Janeiro also closed a sale to the United Kingdom. With regard to up-and-coming designers, Gisele Barbosa conquered new partnerships in Brazil, gained clients in Costa Rica, and renewed sales contracts to Japan. Another highlight was the Siri brand, owned by designer \u00cdris Soares, from the state of Minas Gerais, which closed sales to Japan, Canada, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica. The brand also signed a deal with a distributor from Paris that will represent it in France.<\/p>\n<p> The Fashion Business, which started on Sunday (7th), was held on the sidelines of Fashion Rio&#8217;s 24 fashion shows.
