S\u00e3o Paulo – D’Accord Music Software, a computer music technology company headquartered in the city of Recife, capital of the state of Pernambuco, exports its products to 86 different countries, among them the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Kuwait. \u201cWe have customers around the world because we sell directly through our Website,\u201d says Am\u00e9rico Amorim, a manager and partner at the company. According to him, D\u2019Accord’s site receives approximately 50,000 download requests per month. The orders are delivered upon payment, which is mostly done by credit card. \u201cIt is a simple, red-tape free process,\u201d he claims.<\/p>\n
D\u2019Accord was founded in 2001 by Amorim and his partner Jordano de Freitas, who holds a degree in Computer Science. In 2003, a year after the launch of an acoustic guitar tuning software, a foreign customer downloaded the English language version of the software through a file-sharing site. Now, D\u2019Accord offers more than 10 different types of music software on the Web, all of them with Portuguese and English versions, and has hired 22 professionals, including programmers, artists and musicians.<\/p>\n
In 2008, the company posted revenues of approximately 400,000 Brazilian reais (US$ 200,000), and the goal for 2009 is a 40% expansion. According to Amorim, the growth will be ensured by means of the launch of a line of musical games that started being developed last year. \u201cWe have created Musigames, a new business unit within the company, and have just made the first game for [Apple’s] IPhone available on the English version of our site,\u201d explains Amorim.<\/p>\n
Out of the company’s total exports, 50% goes to the United States. Of the remainder, 30% is sold to European countries and the other 20% goes to the rest of the world. The advertisement that ensures the expansion of the customer base, according to the businessman, is basically done on the Internet and by attending trade fairs for the music industry, such as the Namm, held in California, and for the gaming industry, such as the GDC, in San Francisco, and Game Conexion, in France.<\/p>\n
D\u2019Accord also sells software in CDs and DVDs at stores in Brazil, Australia and New Zealand. "Usually, our local partner manufactures the package and burns the CD with the software," explains Amorim. "We also provide consultancy and research services. Artists, record companies, publishing houses and other music industry segments can establish strategic partnerships with us for the development of technology and innovative projects," Amorim finished off.<\/p>\n
