The event will bring together about 50 works from 20 African countries, emphasizing female production and films previously unreleased in Brazil. The festival schedule will include discussions, masterclasses, and panels with African guests. 11 Arab features and three shorts will be screened.<\/p>\n<p>The schedule in S\u00e3o Paulo will include six venues in the capital city: Cinesesc, Sesc Av Paulista, Goethe-Institut, Cinusp, and Circuito Spcine (Lima Barreto Room) Roberto Santos Library), with film screenings and activities. Tickets will range from free admission to BRL 24 (about USD 4.57) per session.<\/p>\n<p>In a <strong>hybrid<\/strong> format, the festival will also feature online short film exhibitions hosted by Sesc S\u00e3o Paulo. The documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/mostradecinemasafricanos.com\/acervo\/nos-estudantes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">We, Students!<\/a> [Nous, \u00e9tudiants!], by Central African Rafiki Fariala (Central African Republic, France, Democratic Republic of Congo, and <strong>Saudi Arabia<\/strong>, 2022); and the fiction <a href=\"https:\/\/mostradecinemasafricanos.com\/acervo\/cabo-de-guerra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tug of War<\/a> [Vuta N\u2019Kuvute], by Tanzanian Amil Shivji (Tanzania, South Africa, Germany, and <strong>Qatar<\/strong>, 2021).<\/p>\n<p>In the alternative feature circuit, curated by Institut Fran\u00e7ais Cin\u00e9ma, there will be six Arab films. Within the short session \u201cFragments of history: singularities and conjunctions,\u201d curated by Kariny Martins and Bea Gerolin, will be the fiction <a href=\"https:\/\/mostradecinemasafricanos.com\/acervo\/cai-ber\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CAI &#8211; BER<\/a> [Cairo &#8211; Berlin], by Egyptian Ahmed Abdelsalam (Egypt, England, 2021, 17 min.) and the experimental short <a href=\"https:\/\/mostradecinemasafricanos.com\/acervo\/praga-sobre-a-oliveira\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plague Under the Olive Tree<\/a>, by Tunisian Youssef Ksentini (Tunisia, 2021, 10 min.). The short film session Institut Fran\u00e7ais Cin\u00e9ma will feature the fiction <a href=\"https:\/\/mostradecinemasafricanos.com\/acervo\/ward-e-a-festa-da-henna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ward&#8217;s Henna Party<\/a> [Henet Ward], by Egyptian Morad Mostafa (Egypt, 2020, 23 min.). The festival will also feature a session of Angolan short films.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The festival<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s highlights include the South African thriller <strong>Good Madam<\/strong> [Mlungu Wam] by Jenna Bass and Babalwa Baartman. A commentary on racial relations in post-apartheid South Africa, it had its award-winning premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. It will open the African Film Festival schedule with the presence of the filmmakers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Above Water<\/strong> [Marcher sur l\u2019eau] marks the direction debut of French-Senegalese A\u00efssa Ma\u00efga, who will be in S\u00e3o Paulo to present her documentary. In the film, she records the effects of climate change and globalization on a village in Niger.<\/p>\n<p>Making its <strong>world premiere<\/strong> at the African Film Festival, <strong>Otiti<\/strong>, by Nigerian Ema Edosio, follows the story of a seamstress who takes on the responsibility of caring for the ill father who abandoned her as a child.
