S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Brazilian companies interested in sending promotional material to the Damascus International Fair, in Syria, may contact the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/b>, which will have a stand at the event in partnership with the Brazilian embassy to the Syrian capital. The multisectoral trade fair will be held from July 14th to 22nd.<\/p>\n
\u201cSyria is one of the leading trade partners of Brazil in the Arab Levant region (Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine),\u201d said the Arab Brazilian Chamber’s Market Development analyst Rafael Abdulmassih, who will attend the fair.<\/p>\n
Last year, Brazilian exports to Syria grew 43.7% over 2007. Sales increased from US$ 195.6 million to US$ 281.2 million. According to Abdulmassih, shipments that grew the most were those of vegetable oils and fats, products for the steel industry, and fisheries. The analyst highlighted food and machinery as being promising sectors.<\/p>\n
Among the companies that have already submitted catalogues to be exhibited at the stand, which will cover a 54 square metre area, is Cholet, of women’s clothing; JTL, of luxury bathroom metals; Antenas Cristal, of television antennae; APCO, of auto parts; and furniture manufacturers RR M\u00f3bile, Form\u00f3veis and Prov\u00edncia.<\/p>\n
The fair is one of the most traditional and important in the country. Since 1955, the event has attracted exhibitors from several countries. In the past few editions, more than 4,000 exhibitors have attended the fair, and over 50,000 people have visited it. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce has been taking part in the event for more than 5 years.<\/p>\n
On the sidelines of the fair, Abdulmassih and Arab Brazilian Chamber director Sami Roumieh are going to attend various meetings. In order to learn more about investment in the Arab country, they will visit the Syrian Investment Agency, which is linked to the Ministry of Investment. \u201cThese public organizations may offer us valuable information, which we in turn can convey to Brazilian businessmen interested in investing in the country,\u201d said the Arab Brazilian Chamber analyst.<\/p>\n
Another visit will be paid to the Ministry of Tourism. \u201cIt is a two-way street. Just as we wish to disclose the potential of Brazil to the Syrians, we may also obtain promotional and advertising material from Syria to show to Brazilians,\u201d said Abdulmassih. The aim is to also visit the Damascus Stock Exchange, the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, the Syrian Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology, and the Syrian Customs.<\/p>\n
