If the estimate of the 2021\/22 harvest is confirmed, it will represent a growth of 15.9 million tonnes (or 6.2%) compared to 2020\/21.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>maize<\/strong> crop is projected to reach 87.4 million tons in 2021\/22. The amount would represent the largest harvest recorded in the historical series. Forecasts for <strong>soybean<\/strong> production are at 124 million tonnes, while <strong>rice<\/strong> is estimated at 10.8 million tonnes. <strong>Wheat<\/strong> stood out in winter crops, with a record production of 9.2 million tonnes, a 19.3% progress.<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (<strong>IBGE<\/strong>) also released its estimate this Thursday. Unlike CONAB, which makes projections for the crop year, the IBGE works with the calendar year. The institute projects a Brazilian crop of cereals, legumes, and oilseeds of 263.4 million tonnes in 2022.
