According to the agency, organized ports and authorized and leased terminals handled 581.3 million tonnes in the period.

The information is contained in ANTAQ’s Waterway Statistical Panel. The panel also highlighted that, compared to the first half of last year, there was a reduction in the movement of the main cargo profiles: Solid and liquid bulk and containers. Solid bulk represented 58% of total cargo handled in the country, liquid 25%, and containers 11%.

The lower throughput at ports was driven by the decrease in exports of the primary Brazilian commodities: Iron ore, soybean, and oil. According to the agency’s director general, Eduardo Nery, the contraction could be explained by issues in the Chinese market, Brazil’s leading trading partner. He mentioned the country’s lockdown and closure of industries and ports as barriers.

Translated by Elúsio Brasileiro

Brazil’s Government

According to ANTAQ, 518.3 million tonnes passed through Brazilian ports and terminals in the first half of 2022.
