The recognition came due to of one of Santos&#8217; <strong>books<\/strong>, titled &#8216;Faith, War, and Slavery: A History of the Colonial Conquest of Sudan&#8217; [&#8216;F\u00e9, guerra e escravid\u00e3o: Uma hist\u00f3ria da conquista colonial do Sud\u00e3o&#8217;].<\/p>\n<p>The work tells about the African country\u2019s <strong>revolt<\/strong> that took place from 1881 to 1898. The work was translated into English, edited by Suresh Kumar of the University of Delhi, and published in a co-edition between the Federal University of S\u00e3o Paulo (UNIFESP) publishing house and Shivalik Prakashan of the University of Delhi (India).<\/p>\n<p><strong>History<\/strong> Ph.D. from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), the researcher has been writing about the Arab country in North Africa since 1997. For an African Studies scholar to have her work read and recognized by the researched country is a unique satisfaction that motivates perseverance in the times we are going through,\u201d declared the scholar.<\/p>\n<p>The nomination was made by Abdelbagi Sidahmed Osman, a Sudanese who lived in Brazil, where he was president of the Muslim Beneficent Society of Rio de Janeiro from late 1990 to early 2002.<\/p>\n<p>Osman explained on one of his visits to Sudan, he talked to Ph.D. and professors from the <strong>Islamic University of Umdurmaan<\/strong> and introduced them to the Brazilian\u2019s work. \u201cAfter receiving a copy of the book and seeing the research contains historical data that were not even mentioned in the history of the <strong>Mahdist revolution<\/strong> in Sudan, they ended up choosing her work for this award among 4,700 candidates,\u201d he told ANBA.<\/p>\n<p>The expected date for the award ceremony is March 2023.
