S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Federation of Commerce of the State of S\u00e3o Paulo (Fecom\u00e9rcio) disclosed yesterday (10) the Retail Trade Conjectural Research (PCCV). He pointed out the 10.8% growth in sales in the Metropolitan Region of S\u00e3o Paulo in June, when compared to the same month in 2008, and growth of 5.4% over May this year. It was the first month of growth after nine months running of contractions, according to the institution.<\/p>\n
According to a press statement by the Fecom\u00e9rcio, the areas that present the greatest weight in S\u00e3o Paulo retail \u2013 vehicle sales and supermarkets \u2013 were also those that contributed the most to the June performance. With this result, accumulated sales in the first half registered growth of 0.8% over the same period last year.<\/p>\n
The auto sector was the one that grew most, 14.4% over June 2008. In the half, sector sales rose 4.9%. The flow was by the lower industrialized Product Tax, determined by the Federal Government to help the auto industry face the financial crisis.<\/p>\n
In the supermarket area, the growth was 12.2% in June, in comparison with the same period last year, and 5.6% in the half. According to a press statement issued by the Fecom\u00e9rcio, the performance shows the consumer priorities, as they do not stop purchasing basic consumer goods at a moment of crisis.<\/p>\n
The improvement in the credit market in general, aligned to lower interest rates, also boosted retail sales, according to the organisation. There was also significant growth in June in the sectors of garments, fabric and shoes, chemists and perfumery and department stores.<\/p>\n
There was reduction in sales of building material, furniture and decoration and electronic and household appliance shops.<\/p>\n
