S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 British group The Economist, in charge of publishing the magazine of the same name, is going to promote The Economist\u2019s Brazil Summit, a conference in which existing business opportunities in the country will be among the key subject matters, on October 21st in the city of S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe chose Brazil because of the potential that its market has shown. We believe that a large share of multinational companies tend to be based in the country, and nearly 50% of the 100 largest \u2018multi-Latin companies\u2019 are based in Brazil as well,\u201d said to ANBA, by e-mail, the Marketing and Communications director of The Economist Group for Latin America and the Caribbean, Adrian Garcia-Aranyos.<\/p>\n
In addition to discussing opportunities in the country, the forum should tackle issues such as the shift in the international scenario after the financial crisis, the comparison between large emerging countries as engines for global growth, the role of Latin America in a new world order, Brazilian education, consolidation of the financial and capital markets in the country, and the perspectives for Brazil up to 2020.<\/p>\n
According to the evaluation of the Economist Group, emerging markets remain an important source of growth for the world economy, and Brazil’s resistance to the effects of the crisis will be put to the test this year and in the next year. \u201cThe opportunities in Brazil are there to be seized by those who are well-informed, up-to-date and ready to take action,\u201d says a release issued by the group.<\/p>\n
The target audience for the event are businessmen who are seeking information to help their businesses and interested in establishing stronger ties with their peers, private sector leaders, government officials, and analysts.<\/p>\n
Lecturers will include people such as Brazilian economist Eduardo Gianetti da Fonseca, Mexican professor, writer and former minister, Jorge Casta\u00f1eda, the chairman of the Brazilian Federation of Bank Associations (Febraban) and of bank Santander Brasil, F\u00e1bio Barbosa, the president of airline Azul Linhas A\u00e9reas and creator of Jet Blue, David Neeleman, the president of Fiat Latin America, Cledorvino Belini, the chairman of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), Luciano Coutinho, the chairman of Shell Brazil, Vasco Dias, the former executive vice-president of bank Ita\u00fa BBA, Jean-Marc Etlin, the president of investment company BTG, Andr\u00e9 Esteves, the president of the Institute of Co-Responsibility for Education and of the Board of Advisors of Philips Latin America, Marcos Magalh\u00e3es, the World Bank’s education specialist, Alberto Rodriguez and the Brazilian Chief of Staff, Dilma Roussef, as well as the main editors of The Economist.<\/p>\n
According to Garcia-Aranyos, the Economist Group organized a similar conference in Brazil last year, a smaller one in the late 1990s, and one curious fact is that the first international conference ever promoted by the group was held in the Brazilian capital, Bras\u00edlia, in 1957, when the city was still under construction.<\/p>\n
