The course <strong>Qatar \u2013 History, Oil, Football and Politics<\/strong> is divided into two classes to take place next Monday (24) and on October 31 at 7 pm (BRT) via Zoom. <em>Pictured above, Word Cup countdown clock in Doha, Qatar<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The classes will be given in Brazilian Portuguese by GEPOM\u2019s History professors and researchers Muna Omran and Andrew Traumann. Registration is open until October 24, and prices range from BRL 130 to BRL 200.<\/p>\n<p>The world is turning its gaze on Qatar now that the World Cup is right around the corner. The Arab country was a British colony until 1971, and a major part of its revenues comes from the oil and gas sector. Since its independence, Qatar has sought to take center stage in the Arab world, as well as distinguishing cultural and political landmarks like the Qatar Foundation and international radio and TV station Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>Governed by Sharia, the Islamic law, the country has also opened up a space for women to have an active participation in society.
