S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Designer Gesoni Pawlick, based in the state of Santa Catarina, has designed a collection inspired by Dubai, an Arab city that became synonymous with luxury and ostentation worldwide. Gesoni, who owns an atelier in Florian\u00f3polis, the capital of Santa Catarina, works with haute couture and makes party and wedding dresses. \u201cI wanted to do something that had a grandiose character,\u201d says the designer. Hence the choice of Dubai.<\/p>\n
Due to the theme selected, Gesoni used sandy tones, reminiscent of the desert, blue tones, emulating the Gulf waters, and white and black, in a reference to Arab oil. He even made dresses emulating the shape of the Spanish Dancer sea slug, found in the ocean in the region, and others reminiscent of the famous Burj Al Arab Hotel, shaped after a sail. In the collection, the designer also used stones, pearls and Swarovski crystals.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn Dubai, nothing is tiny and cute, everything is huge,\u201d says Gesoni. The designer has not been to the United Arab Emirates, the country in which Dubai is located, but claims that he would really like to know the region. He did much research in order to design the collection. \u201cI have read a lot about Dubai,\u201d he says. The designer used jeans to manufacture the items, which were displayed in a parade by denim brand Canatiba in the city of Balne\u00e1rio Cambori\u00fa.<\/p>\n
Gesoni creates custom-made haute couture dresses. He has never exported, but claims that he intends to. \u201cThere is a lot of domestic demand in Brazil,\u201d he explains, regarding the large volume of work that he has. Besides meeting clients individually, he also has the infrastructure to supply orders from stores. The designer used to own a store in Florian\u00f3polis, but decided to close it last year to dedicate himself exclusively to the atelier. <\/p>\n
Gesoni has worked in the fashion industry for 34 years. He is self-taught and started his career sewing for his wife, Marli, and then for his daughters. The designer began developing and showcasing his own collections to the fashion world in 2005. The first one was a tribute to International Women\u2019s Day. <\/p>\n
