Lula said his administration will \u201cresume its ties and once again fight hunger in the world.\u201d He said he wants to cooperate once again with the poorest countries \u2014 above all <strong>Africa<\/strong> \u2014 with investments and technology transfers, to \u201cbuild a better future for our peoples.\u201d \u201cWe are back to help build a peaceful world order based on dialogue and multilateralism,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Lula said the country is open to <strong>international cooperation<\/strong> to conserve its biomes. \u201cBut always under Brazilian sovereignty. We will never give it up,\u201d he said. He added that efforts to <strong>fight climate change<\/strong> will have the highest profile in his next administration. \u201cWe will prioritize the fight against deforestation of all of our biomes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The president-elect believes that the world needs a just and equitable <strong>energy transition<\/strong>, and investing in wind power, solar, power, green hydrogen and biofuels is the only way to achieve this. \u201cThese are areas that Brazil has a huge potential in, particularly in the Brazilian Northeast, which just started being tapped.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the world needs <strong>new global governance<\/strong>. \u201cThe veto power of the UN Security Council must be ended for true peace,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The president-elect proposed to hold the <strong>Summit of the Member Countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty<\/strong>. \u201cSo that Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guiana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela can for the first time discuss their integrated development in a sovereign way, with social inclusion and climate responsibility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Another proposal is for Brazil to host <a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/brazils-lula-wants-to-host-cop30-2025-in-the-amazon\/\">COP30<\/a> in 2025, as he had already said in an event this morning. \u201cWe\u2019ll be increasingly affirmative in the face of the challenge of tackling climate change, in line with the commitments agreed upon in Paris and guided by the search for decarbonizing the global economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_321017\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-321017\" style=\"width: 238px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-11-16-at-14.01.53.jpeg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-321019\" src=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-11-16-at-14.01.53-238x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"238\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-11-16-at-14.01.53-238x300.jpeg 238w, https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-11-16-at-14.01.53-812x1024.jpeg 812w, https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-11-16-at-14.01.53-768x969.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-11-16-at-14.01.53-1217x1536.jpeg 1217w, https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-11-16-at-14.01.53.jpeg 1268w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 238px) 100vw, 238px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-321017\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Lula addressed crowded audience at COP27<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lula emphasized that when Brazil chairs the <strong>G20<\/strong> summit in 2024, the climate agenda will be one of the main priorities.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that in 2009, rich countries said they would raise USD 100 billion at COP15 in Copenhagen to help the less developed countries to face climate change. \u201cThis has not happened. That is what leads us to another important theme of this COP. We need financial mechanisms to remedy <strong>loss and damage<\/strong> caused by climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This debate cannot be postponed, Lula said. \u201cWe need to deal with the reality of countries that have to protect the territorial integrity of their countries threatened. It is time to act. We cannot live with this rush towards the abyss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Today, I am here to say that Brazil is ready to join once again the efforts to build a healthier planet, a fairer world and a more effective humanity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/category\/news\/sustainability\/\">Here&#8217;s more on the COP27<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Planet security<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fighting the global warming, Lula said, is inseparable from the fight against poverty for a fairer world, and there is no planet security without a protected Amazon. \u201cWe will do whatever it takes to have <strong>zero deforestation<\/strong> and degradations of our biomes by 2030.\u201d The proposal was initially floated during last year&#8217;s climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Environmental crimes<\/strong> will be punished, Lula said, adding that he will strengthen oversight bodies and \u201cpunish illegal activities: gold miners, loggers, farmers. These actions affect native people above all,\u201d Lula said, announcing a <strong>Ministry for Indigenous Peoples<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Agroforestry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lula said that agricultural output without environmental balance is something from the past. His government will pursue a balanced production, carbon sequestration, biodiversity protection, soil regeneration in all Brazil\u2019s biomes, and increased income for farmers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am sure that Brazilian agribusiness will be a strategic ally in our government looking for regenerative and <strong>sustainable<\/strong> agriculture, with investments in rural science, technology and education, and valorization of the knowledge of indigenous peoples and local community. Hope combined with immediate, decisive action for the future of the planet and the humanity,\u201d the president-elect said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lula t COP27<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The presence of the Brazilian president-elect at COP27 packed two conference rooms to accommodate all those wanting to watch his speech, and many stayed outside. Both the Brazilian delegation, which is the second largest of COP27, and foreigners stopped to hear Brazil\u2019s leader at the climate summit.
