Bras\u00edlia \u2013 One of the main challenges waiting to be met by the Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras, when it comes to exploring the oil located in the pre-salt layer, is logistics. The statement was made last Friday (25th) by the president of Petobras, Jos\u00e9 Sergio Gabrielli, after taking part in a debate on the pre-salt at the Federal Council of Engineering, Architecture and Agronomy (Confea), in the Brazilian capital Bras\u00edlia.<\/p>\n
According to Gabrielli, \u201cit will be very difficult to go about transporting equipment and personnel,\u201d as well as transporting gas and oil out of the platforms destined for the pre-salt. The units, according to him, will be at least 300 kilometres off the coast.<\/p>\n
Presently, Brazilian offshore platforms are mostly located from 100 to 150 kilometres off the coast. According to him, however, the company is looking at possible solutions. \u201cOne of them consists of using less populated platforms and purchasing dozens of helicopters that are better suited for long distances,\u201d he exemplified. "There is also the possibility of adapting plants currently used for gas liquefaction into floating units," he added.<\/p>\n
The president of Petrobras informed that approximately 40,000 people are transported the offshore platforms each month.<\/p>\n
Petrobras has confirmed that, once the bill is passed allowing for the state-owned company to issue bonds to capitalize on the reserves of the pre-salt, it is going to summon an extraordinary general assembly so that the proposal may be also passed by the company shareholders.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis may take place in less than 45 days,\u201d said Gabrielli. He guaranteed \u201call rights of minority shareholders will be respected\u201d and that Brazilian law grants them preference on purchasing new shares.<\/p>\n
