S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Institute of Arab Culture (Icarabe) is accepting enrolments for the second edition of its course Panorama da Cultura \u00c1rabe (Panorama of Arab Culture), to be promoted from October 15th to November 26th, at Espa\u00e7o C\u00e2mara \u00c1rabe (Arab Brazilian Chamber Space), which belongs to the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/b>, in the city of S\u00e3o Paulo. Enrolments will be accepted up until October 12th and the openings are limited.<\/p>\n
According to information from the institute\u2019s website, classes will be complementary to those of the first course, held in 2006, but contents will be different and will be administered by several teachers. In total, there will be seven classes, to take place on Thursdays, from 07:30 pm to 10:00 pm. Approximately 80 people are expected to attend.<\/p>\n
The themes of the classes for this edition will be the concept of Arab nation; the meaning of the veil to Arab women; sex in literature; the Sufi mystical doctrine; the Arab influence on science; Syrian-Lebanese immigration in Brazil; and the transferring of Arab architectural elements to the West.<\/p>\n
The first class, \u201cO \u00e1rabe e sua identidade pr\u00f3pria\u201d (The Arab and his own identity), will be administered by professor Jos\u00e9 Arbex Jr., from the Pontifical Catholic University of S\u00e3o Paulo (PUC-SP); the second one, \u201cV\u00e9u: com que roupa ela vai?\u201d (Veil: what clothes is she going to wear), by professor Muna Zeyn, from R\u00e1dio USP; \u201cLiteratura: em busca do prazer perdido\u201d (Literature: searching for the lost pleasure), with professor Michel Sleiman, of USP; \u201cEntre o c\u00e9u e a terra: formas, cores e espiritualidade\u201d (Between sky and earth: shapes, colours and spirituality), with professor Sylvia Leite (USP); \u201cA ci\u00eancia dos \u00e1rabes em novo lugar\u201d (The science of the Arabs in a new place), with professor Soraya Smaili (Unifesp); \u201cA saga dos s\u00edrios e libaneses no Brasil\u201d (The saga of the Syrians and Lebanese in Brazil), with professor Osvaldo Truzzi (UFSCar), and \u201cArquitetura \u00e1rabe: tra\u00e7ar, destra\u00e7ar, retra\u00e7ar\u201d (Arab architecture: to draw, to un-draw, to redraw), with professor Andrea Piccini (USP).<\/p>\n
The cost of the course for the general public is 250 Brazilian reals (US$ 140). Icarabe members and students will pay 180 reals (US$ 100). Participants who attend at least five classes will be awarded a certificate.<\/p>\n
