The <strong>United Arab Emirates<\/strong>\u2019 award recognizes global sustainability solutions. Submissions are open until May 2, 2023, and will be accepted only through the prize\u2019s online portal. <em>Pictured, this year\u2019s awards ceremony<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Small to medium enterprises, nonprofit organizations and high schools are invited to submit an entry in one of the five categories of Heath, Food, Energy, Water and Global High Schools.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the prize celebrates 15 years of existence. The 2023 cycle received a record-breaking 4,538 applications from 152 countries, marking a 13% increase in submissions compared to the previous cycle.<\/p>\n<p>The prize\u2019s USD 3 million fund rewards winners USD 600,000 in each category. The Global High Schools category is split into six world regions, with each school able to claim up to USD 100,000 to start or further expand their project. The six world regions of the Global High Schools category are The Americas, Europe &amp; Central Asia, Middle East &amp; North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and East Asia &amp; Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>The Zayed Sustainability Prize has a three-stage evaluation process. Winners of the 2024 Zayed Sustainability Prize will be announced at an Awards Ceremony during the COP28 Climate Summit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Healthcare in Brazil<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2023, Brazil\u2019s nonprofit <strong>Expedicion\u00e1rios da Sa\u00fade <\/strong>(EDS) was awarded in the Health category. From Campinas, S\u00e3o Paulo, they work in expeditions to the <strong>Amazon<\/strong>. \u201cWe were awarded in the Health category for managing to take surgical procedures to a geographically isolated population that would be unlikely to have access to the procedures we perform,\u201d Martin Affonso Ferreira, EDS benefactor member and anesthesiologist, was quoted as saying in a statement.
