S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 \u201cArab immigrants & Brazil\u2019s Carnival<\/strong>\u201d will be the subject of an online meeting in Portuguese [\u201cO imigrante \u00e1rabe e o Carnaval\u201d] this Wednesday (1), at 7:00 pm, on the YouTube channel of Brazil\u2019s Arab Culture Institute (ICArabe). The debate is part of the \u201cDialogues of the Arab World\u201d [\u201cDi\u00e1logos do Mundo \u00c1rabe\u201d] series, which addresses the diversity and influence of Arab culture in Brazil<\/strong> in different aspects. Meetings will occur on each month\u2019s first Wednesday throughout the year 2023.<\/p>\n

The vice president of ICArabe, University of Lisbon Ph.D., professor at the Language School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and author of books on Arab and Brazilian culture, Jo\u00e3o Baptista de Medeiros Vargens<\/strong>(pictured above)<\/em>, will lecture about carnival and immigration. He wrote biographies of personalities from the Portela samba school. ICArabe\u2019s cultural director, Soraya Misleh, will be the meeting host.<\/p>\n

Through the meetings, ICArabe intends to uphold and draw attention to Arab culture in Brazil, encouraging recognition of its presence in local society. The S\u00e3o Paulo-based institute works to integrate, study, and promote the many forms of expression of Arab culture, ancient and contemporary, and encourage the recognition of its presence in Brazilian society.<\/p>\n
