S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Embraer signed today (17th) a contract for the sale of five Embraer 175 jets to Arab company Oman Air. The contract also includes purchase options for another five aircraft. The total value of the sale is US$ 177.5 million, and it may double if the purchase options are converted into sales.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are indeed pleased to have Oman Air as the newest customer of our E-Jets family, and the first in the Gulf area,\u201d said Frederico Fleury Curado, Embraer president and CEO. \u201cIt\u2019s a privilege to have our planes chosen to play a significant part in the airline\u2019s strategy to develop air services both within and to and from the Sultanate of Oman.\u201d<\/p>\n
Among the jets acquired, four will be operated by the airline and one by the Royal Omani Police. The first delivery should take place in the first quarter of 2011. The aircraft will be configured for 72 seats, 12 in the executive class and 60 in the economy. Oman Air is the national airline of the Arab country. The company started operating in 1993. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe E-Jets are proven products in the Middle East, and the solid background Embraer has in the region was a key driver in our selection process,\u201d said Ahmed Macki, chairman of Oman Air. \u201cWe are convinced that the E-Jets will be the ideal platform for increasing frequencies and developing new routes, as well as catering to our expanding domestic market,\u201d he finished off.<\/p>\n
Embraer has already delivered some 40 jets to clients and operators in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
