Rio de Janeiro \u2013 The Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras informed on this Thursday (11th) that it has concluded the drilling of an exploratory well in shallow waters \u2013 at 220 metres of depth \u2013 in the post-salt layer of the Campos Basin. According to a press release issued by the company, the well in question is the 4-PM-53, which enabled the discovery of a new producer area in the Pampo Field region, six kilometres away from the PPM-1 (Pampo Platform).<\/p>\n
Petrobras\u2019 release reports that the volume of recoverable oil is estimated at 25 million barrels of 20 degree API (heavy oil). Due to the excellent porosity, permeability and thickness of the reservoir, Petrobras estimates that the well\u2019s flow may be of approximately 3,000 barrels per day. The company underscores the fact that the discovery opens up a new exploratory front to the east of the Pampo and Bicudo concessions.<\/p>\n
The well should start producing before the end of the year, because of the existing production infrastructure in the region. Petrobras is contemplating linking the well to either the PPM-1 or P-7 platform, the latter of which is located in the Bicudo field. the company intends to drill new wells in the region in order to make use of the existing premises and to lower costs.<\/p>\n
