S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Embraer announced yesterday (4) the delivery of two Embraer 170 commercial jets to Gulf Air, the state-owned airline of Bahrain, an Arab nation in the Gulf. The deal is the result of a contract signed between both companies in Bahrain during the Bahrain International Air Show, in January.<\/p>\n
According to a press statement by the Brazilian company, the aircraft delivered to Gulf Air, through a leasing agreement, are configured to operate in two classes, with seven executive seats and 60 economy class seats. With this delivery, the company from Bahrain is the sixth Arab airline to operate Embraer commercial jets.<\/p>\n
Gulf Air was established in 1950 and belongs to the government of Bahrain. However, it should be privatised in the near future, according to information recently disclosed by the Chairman of the Economic Development Council of the country, Mohammed Bin Essa Al Khalifa.<\/p>\n
Before the sale, however, the company managers plan to put it back in the black and bet mainly on regional aviation, a sector for which Embraer jets were developed.<\/p>\n
