S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Bahraini minister of Housing, Ibraim Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, announced last week in Rio de Janeiro that his country is going to host the next edition of the World Urban Forum, promoted by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). The announcement was made at the closing ceremony of this year\u2019s edition, held in Rio de Janeiro from March 22 to 26.<\/p>\n
The meeting is held every two years, in order to discuss initiatives that may provide better living conditions to inhabitants of cities. Upon announcing the next country to host the World Urban Forum, the Bahraini minister showed a video on the country. The material included parts of the archipelago of 35 small islands that comprise the country, and its ancient monuments that coexist with tall, modern buildings. <\/p>\n
At the Forum hosted by Rio, 14,000 were awarded credentials. According to the Brazilian minister of Cities, Marcio Fortes, even more people were interested, but not all applications could be accepted due to lack of space.
