S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Brazilian documentary film Cosm\u00f3polis, directed by Otavio Cury, will be screened in the Arab world for the first time. On Sunday (25th), the film, which received subtitles in Arabic with sponsorship from the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/b>, is going to be shown at the Cervantes Institute in Damascus.<\/p>\n
With a duration of 55 minutes, the film tells the story of the city of S\u00e3o Paulo through 12 immigrants, among them a grandson of Syrians and an Egyptian. After the screening, which will count on the participation of the Embassy of Brazil in Syria, there will be a debate on Arab immigration to Brazil with the Brazilian director and the ambassador Edgard Casciano.<\/p>\n
Produced in 2005, Cosm\u00f3polis was selected for the leading film festivals in Brazil, and has also featured in several European festivals. S\u00e3o Paulo, the largest metropolis in Brazil, is home to approximately 12 million people, including many immigrants.<\/p>\n
In the documentary, Cury draws parallels between the history of the city and the universes of the 12 immigrants, who are Arab and Jewish merchants, one Bolivian street vendor, repente<\/i> singers from Northeast Brazil, one karaoke champion, and others.<\/p>\n
