S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Industrial production grew 19.7% in March, when compared to the same month last year, according to the Industrial Research disclosed today (4) by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE). In the accumulated result for the first quarter of the year, growth was 18.1% over the same period in 2009. From February to March, industrial production rose 2.8%.<\/p>\n
According to the research, the positive performance in industrial activity in March confirmed the growing quarterly trajectory, which has been on the rise for 13 months. In industry as a whole, the advance identified from February to March was 1.8%, expanding the rhythm of growth over the last four months. The highlight was in durable consumer goods, which presented the greatest growth among usage products, followed by capital goods and semi- and non-durable goods, both growing 1.4%. The sector of intermediary goods also showed positive rates and followed a growing trajectory since March 2009.<\/p>\n
The growth in industrial production as against March 2009 was also generalized, reaching 25 of the 27 activities researched, and reflected, once again, not just acceleration in the rhythm of production but also the low base for comparison, due to the effects of the international economic crisis last year. Apart from that, March 2010 had one more working day than March 2009. The level of diffusion, with growth of 77% in the 755 projects investigated, also showed dynamic results in the industrial sector, on registering the greatest level in the historic series, which started in January 2003.<\/p>\n
Vehicles and machinery and equipment were responsible for the main positive impacts in the global figure. It is also worth recalling the expansion in basic metallurgy, metal products, other chemical products, pharmaceuticals, food, mining, rubber and plastic.<\/p>\n
