S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Foreign tourists visiting Brazil in the month of April spent US$ 461 million, according to figures disclosed on Tuesday (25) by the Central Bank. The volume is 18.8% greater than that registered in the same month in 2009 and the best reached in the Central Bank\u2019s historic series, which began in 1947.<\/p>\n
The first four months of 2010 have already presented the best result in the Central Bank series, having accumulated US$ 2.116 billion in revenues, growth of 16.9% over the same period last year.<\/p>\n
"The result is meaningful for Brazil and confirms the tendency for 2010 to be a year of exceptional performance for international tourism and a year for affirmation of the country of the global scenery,\u201d stated Jeanine Pires, president at Embratur, in a statement issued by the company.<\/p>\n
On comparing the first four months of 2010 with the same period in 2003, when the Embratur started working exclusively on tourist promotion of Brazil abroad, the inflow of funds has grown 173.4%.<\/p>\n
The Central Bank calculation includes official exchange and expenses on international credit cards.<\/p>\n
