S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) granted its Tourism for Tomorrow Award to Emirates Hotels & Resorts during the 2010 edition of its summit, held in Beijing, China from May 25 to 27. <\/p>\n
The Tourism for Tomorrow Award is the highest honour offered by the Council in acknowledgement of best practices in development of sustainable tourism and protection and preservation of biodiversity.<\/p>\n
Emirates Hotels & Resorts has three conservation projects worldwide: Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa, in Australia, and Cap Ternay Resort & Spa, in the Seychelles, which is still under construction.<\/p>\n
\u201cEmirates Hotels & Resorts has taken environmental commitments seriously; and our resorts and their conservation work form a central focus of our corporate environmental policy,\u201d said Hans Haensel, senior vice president of the Emirates Hotels & Resorts\u2019 Destination & Leisure Management Division, in a press release.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Conservation Award is awarded to hotels and tourism organisations which have demonstrated that their tourism developments and operations have directly contributed to conservation of natural habitats, biodiversity, and wildlife protection,\u201d said Jean-Claude Baumgarten, president and CEO of the WTTC, also in a press release. <\/p>\n
According to Emirates Hotels & Resorts, its first resort, the Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa, was designed and built following the principles of environmentally sustainable development. As technology progressed, the company built the Wolgan Valley, which was the world\u2019s first hotel to be carbon-neutral certified by an international accreditation organization.<\/p>\n
