S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Exports of vehicles totalled US$ 1.1 billion in May, representing growth of 27.2% over April, of 77.5% over the same month of last year, and of 63.3% year-to-date. It was the best result for the industry since October 2008, when the turnover was US$ 1.3 billion.<\/p>\n
In order to meet the stronger foreign demand, the industry increased its output of lorries, autos and buses by 6.6%, with 309,629 units, as against 290,325 in April. In comparison with the same period of 2009, there was growth of 14.9%, and from January to May, there was growth of 20.9%.<\/p>\n
Domestic sales dropped by 9.6% over April, having totalled 251,087 units. The sales volume, however, was 1.7% still greater than that of May last year, and 14.6% greater than in the period ranging from January to May. In the five-month period, 1.433 million vehicles were produced. The data were supplied by the National Association of Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea).<\/p>\n
