S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Company Dellay, based in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, has just closed a sale of 6,000 pairs of men\u2019s sandals to a Saudi importer. The deal was closed during the last edition of the International Shoes and Accessories Fashion Fair (Francal), held from July 5th to 8th in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n
According to the company\u2019s owner, Celso Delai, this is the fifth sale to the Arab importer. He claims that orders totalling 10,000 pairs of sandals are expected next year.<\/p>\n
Presently, Saudi Arabia is the only Arab country with which Dellay does business, but this figure appears to be on the verge of going up. \u201cOther Arabs have contacted us, including some from Sudan,\u201d says Delai. The businessman believes in the possibility of doing business with the African country. \u201cThey really enjoyed our product. We are going to ship some samples and then we will see.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Delai, in 2009 the company allocated 20% to 30% of its output to exports, a rate that should increase in 2010. \u201cThis year, exports should account for 30% to 35% of our production,\u201d he claims.<\/p>\n
The United Kingdom is currently the leading importer of the company\u2019s products, but Delai also believes that he stands a chance of expanding his dealings with the Arabs. \u201cThe Arab market is a good market. Some of the countries offer better perspectives. The Arab market is bullish right now,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
He also explains that the company participates in the internationalization programme promoted by the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae), in order to gain clients in new countries.<\/p>\n
Dellay has existed for 20 years and also manufactures women\u2019s sandals and boots. Headquartered in the city of Novo Hamburgo, the company employs 130 people.<\/p>\n
