S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 In order to present new advances in plastic surgery and exchange experiences in the segment, 15 Brazilian surgeons will give lectures at the World Congress of Plastic Surgeons of Lebanese Descent, due October 14 to 17 in Beirut, Lebanon. Aside from Brazil, the event will bring together doctors from Argentina, the United States, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, Chile, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, among other countries.<\/p>\n
The event is organized by the Lebanese Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (LSPRAS). In Brazil, the event\u2019s organizer is the surgeo Romeu Fadul. According to him, the Brazilian lecturers are from different states of the country, such as S\u00e3o Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paran\u00e1, Par\u00e1 and Minas Gerais. \u201cThese are states that house large Lebanese colonies,\u201d he said. Most of the doctors from S\u00e3o Paulo work at the city\u2019s Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in the city, such as Fadul.<\/p>\n
According to him, in 1999 Beirut hosted the Brazil-Lebanon Plastic Surgery Congress, attended by over 200 Brazilians. \u201cThere are very close friendship ties between Brazilian and Lebanese surgeos,\u201d he said. After this congress, there has been an attempt to organize a second edition of the event in 2007, which was cancelled due to the Israeli invasion in the South of the Arab country.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow, the congress will be global. It will bring together prominent names of plastic surgery,\u201d said Fadul. Among them is the Brazilian Ricardo Baroudi, a retired surgeon of international acclaim. \u201cHe is renowned worldwide,\u201d he claimed. The presence of leading names in plastic surgery has led surgeons who are not Lebanese descendents to become interested in attending the event. \u201cWe have made exceptions for colleagues who are non-descendants and who excel at reference hospitals,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
At the meeting, current matters will be under discussion. \u201cEach colleague has their specialty, and will show the newest trends in the field,\u201d said Fadul. According to him, Brazilian plastic surgery is regarded around the world for its quality, in particular the quality of the surgeons\u2019 education.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are a reference in the Middle East, which is not as advanced in this segment. A congress of this kind is of utmost importance to them,\u201d said Fadul. The Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery has over 4,800 accredited surgeons.<\/p>\n
Enrolment to attend the congress is open and can be made at the LSPRAS Website (www.lspras.com). On the sidelines of the event, travel agencies offer packages to several Lebanese cities.<\/p>\n
