S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Company OGX announced today (22nd) that it has found hydrocarbons in the Aptian section (geological stratum formed between 125 million and 112 million years ago) at the OGX-15 well, located in the BM-C-41 block, in shallow waters in the southern portion of the Campos Basin. The company owns a 100% stake in the block.<\/p>\n
The new discovery was made after OGX located hydrocarbons in the Albian section of the well (a stratum formed between 112 million and 99.6 million years ago). Rocks with traces of hydrocarbons were found at two intervals, with net pays (areas that might contain oil) of approximately 4 and 27 metres. The well will continue being drilled up to around 3,500 metres.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe drilling of the OGX-15 well was very important, as it enabled us to determine the connectivity of the Albian province towards the northern section of the block. As for the Aptian section, pressure tests will still be conducted to determine the connectivity between these reservoirs and those found in wells OGX-2 and OGX-6,\u201d said Paulo Mendon\u00e7a, director general of OGX, in a release.<\/p>\n
The OGX-15 well, in the BM-C-41 block, is located approximately 78 kilometres off the coast fo the state of Rio de Janeiro, at a water depth of around 130 metres.<\/p>\n
