S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Institute of Arab Culture (Icarabe) is accepting enrolments for the course \u201cIslamic architecture: the Arabs, Islam and other peoples,\u201d due to start on October 14th at the Arab Brazilian Chamber Space, in S\u00e3o Paulo. Interested parties may enrol on the institute’s website up until October 11th.<\/p>\n
The course will comprise five classes, always on Thursdays from 07:30 pm to 10:00 pm. The first class will provide be an introduction on Islamic architecture and its precursors. Islam and the main dynasties of its first period will be covered. The second class will approach the spread of Islam across Iran, Central Asia and Spain.<\/p>\n
In the remaining days, the classes will address the emergence of independent dynasties in North Africa and Europe, the Turkish culture and Islamic art. In the final class, students will be presented with an overview of the legacy of Muslim civilizations in art and architecture.<\/p>\n
Classes will be taught by Andrea Piccini, architect and author of the book "Arquitetura do oriente m\u00e9dio ao ocidente: a transfer\u00eancia de elementos arquitet\u00f4nicos atrav\u00e9s do Mediterr\u00e2neo at\u00e9 Floren\u00e7a" (Architecture from the Middle East to the West: the transfer of architectural elements through the Mediterranean to Florence); Lygia Rocco, architect and fine artist; and lecturer Victor Mell\u00e3o, who will speak on Turkish culture and the Muslim world.<\/p>\n
