S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Twenty artworks shortlisted during a contest on the Tripoli Fair, in Lebanon, will be on display during a short exhibition from April 12 to 27 at the Marsah Gallery, in Tr\u00edpoli. Both the upcoming exhibit and the contest are initiatives of the Embassy of Brazil in Beirut and Guimar\u00e3es Rosa Institute – Beirut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rachid Karami International Fair, aka the Tripoli Fair, is a sprawling exhibition pavilion designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. It sits in a 173-acre area between Tripoli and Al Mina Port. The main building features a boomerang-shaped roof and facilities designed to host exhibitions as well as other activities. Built in the 1960s as part of a modernization effort, it was listed in 2023 as a World Heritage site and a World Heritage in Danger site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).<\/p>\n\n\n

With that in mind, and to celebrate the fact that Tripoli has been picked as the 2024 Arab Capital of Culture, the organizers created the exhibit \u201cTripoli Fair: The Way I See It\u201d Art Prize \u2013 Selected Works. The show will feature the 20 best entries from last year\u2019s contest in a bid to \u201craise awareness to the need to conserve and consider the future of the Fair, one of the premier modernist designs in the Arab world,\u201d a statement from the Embassy read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibit will feature works by the likes of Ieva Saudargaite Douaihi, Mariam Maaliki, and the winner Mohamad Alamin Younis, each of whom got a USD 1,000 prize. Also featured will be photographs, paintings, sculptures, and other artworks by Pietro Bassil, Stephani Tager, Leila Charafeddine, and Tharaa Captan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
