{"id":364487,"date":"2024-04-23T17:28:36","date_gmt":"2024-04-23T20:28:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=364487"},"modified":"2024-04-23T17:29:23","modified_gmt":"2024-04-23T20:29:23","slug":"electric-cars-less-than-1-in-middle-east","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/electric-cars-less-than-1-in-middle-east\/","title":{"rendered":"Electric cars: Less than 1% in Middle East"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Global <strong>electric car sales<\/strong> are on the rise and could hit around <strong>17 million <\/strong>in 2024, with more than one in five cars sold globally set to be electric, the International Energy Agency (<strong>IEA<\/strong>) forecast in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/reports\/global-ev-outlook-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> on Tuesday (23).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the <strong>Middle East<\/strong>, Africa, and Eurasia, electric cars are still rare, though, accounting for less than 1% of last year\u2019s total car sales. However, Chinese carmakers look for opportunities in these markets \u2013 including with domestic production \u2013 which could boost change this situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jordan<\/strong> boasts the highest electric car sales share, at more than 45%, supported by very low import duties, followed by the <strong>United Arab Emirates<\/strong>, with 13%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While sales of electric cars are increasing globally, particularly in emerging markets, they remain significantly concentrated in just a few major markets \u2013 just under 60% of new electric car registrations were in China, just under 25% in Europe, and 10% in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Read more<\/em>:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/brazilian-and-global-consumers-seek-electric-vehicles\/\">Brazilian and global consumers seek electric vehicles<\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/saudi-arabia-announces-first-electric-vehicle-plant\/\">Saudi Arabia announces first electric vehicle plant<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sales in emerging countries are increasing. In Vietnam electric cars reached a 15% sales share in 2023, in Thailand 10%, in <strong>Brazil <\/strong>3%, and in Indonesia, Malaysia, and India 2% each. A series of consumption and industry incentives have encouraged the use of electric cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Electric cars: Challenges<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The report said that tight margins, volatile battery metal prices, high inflation, and the phase-out of purchase incentives in some countries have sparked concerns about the industry\u2019s pace of growth, but global sales data remain strong.
