S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations informed today (18th) that foreign minister Celso Amorim has signed an agreement with the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital (HSL, in the Portuguese acronym), in S\u00e3o Paulo, to promote technical cooperation between the healthcare institution and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), an organization linked to the foreign ministry. The aim is to promote actions in the medical field in developing countries.<\/p>\n
As announced by ANBA in September, the HSL already promotes exchange in healthcare in Arab countries, counting on support from the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/b>. Representatives of the hospital travelled to Syria recently to kick off a liver transplant program with the University of Damascus.<\/p>\n
According to a statement issued by the Itamaraty (the Brazilian foreign ministry), the HSL is developing a cooperation project with Palestine in partnership with the ministry. Recently, the Syrian-Lebanese and Albert Einstein hospitals, both in S\u00e3o Paulo, have announced the sending of healthcare workers to Haiti to help fight the cholera epidemic affecting the Caribbean country.<\/p>\n
