S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 On Tuesday (7), Sesc Nova Friburgo<\/strong>, located in the homonymous city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, kicks off a literary immersion<\/strong> on the works of author Salim Miguel<\/strong>. The program is part of the 100th<\/sup> birthday celebration of Miguel, who was born in Lebanon and later became a naturalized Brazilian citizen, one of the greatest authors in Brazil’s state of Santa Catarina. He died in 2016 and would have turned 100 in January 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activities start with an opening on the 7th<\/sup><\/strong> at 10am, when Professor Muna Omran, who\u2019s also a writer and playwright, will speak about Salim Miguel and his work in a lecture titled \u201cOs V\u00e1rios Salim\u201d [The Various Salims]. The next day, May 8<\/strong>, Professor M\u00e1rcia Assaf conducts a creative writing workshop titled \u201cSaberes e Sabores\u201d [Savoir and Savors] based on a sensorial experience of Lebanese diaspora\u2019s cuisine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 9<\/strong>, a dramatic reading from the book Nur na escurid\u00e3o <\/em>[Nur in the Dark] will be performed by actor Pedro M\u00e1ximo, an adaptation made by Omran and directed by Simone Kalil. On May 10<\/strong>, Ant\u00f4nio Carlos Miguel, journalist and Salim Miguel\u2019s son, and Stefania Chiarrelli, professor of Brazilian literature at the Fluminense Federal University, participate in an debate on the author moderated by Omran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The immersion project on Salim Miguel won the Sesc-Pulsar a Imers\u00e3o Liter\u00e1ria<\/strong> competition. Throughout the activities books will be raffled among all attendees. Admission is free, and the event will feature translation into Brazilian Sign Language. It is produced by Mabruk Produ\u00e7\u00e3o Cultural e Art\u00edstica and Tr\u00edpoli Cultural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
