S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Bahrain<\/strong> and United Arab Emirates<\/strong> are some of the countries that sent their condolences to Brazil over the natural disasters that have plagued Rio Grande do Sul<\/strong> since last week. UAE state news agency WAM reported that the country\u2019s leaders sent a message to President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva<\/strong> of Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n

UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan<\/strong> sent a message of condolences over the victims of the floods caused by heavy rains in southern Brazil, wishing a speedy recovery to all the injured. According to data from the state civil defense authority, the heavy rains at least 90 people, 132 are still missing, and 361 are injured. The flooding left 203,800 people displaced, with 155,700 in the houses of family and friends and 48,100 in shelters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE\u2019S vice president and prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, and Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE\u2019s vice president, deputy prime minister and chairman of the Presidential Court, sent similar messages to the Brazilian president. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain also expressed the \u201csympathy and solidarity\u201d of the Kingdom of Bahrain over the victims of the floods and landslides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Support from Brazil\u2019s neighbors<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Brazil\u2019s neighbors Argentina<\/strong>, Uruguay<\/strong> and Venezuela <\/strong>expressed their sympathy and offered support. Argentina offered to send the Brazilian government logistics experts, sniffer dogs, a military transport plane, three helicopters, healthcare equipment and personnel, vessels, and two potable water plants. Uruguay has sent an air force helicopter to help rescue people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several other countries sent their messages of support to Brazil, including Chile<\/strong>, Italy<\/strong>, Portugal, Benin,<\/strong> and the Vatican<\/strong> through Pope Francis in his latest Prayer to St. Peter on Sunday (5), assuring his \u201cprayers for the people of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, affected by major floods.\u201d The United States<\/strong> ambassador to Brazil, Elizabeth Frawley Bagley, said she is \u201cdeeply saddened by the situation of the Rio Grande do Sul people\u201d and expressed her \u201csympathy and solidarity\u201d to the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
