S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Paper industry Igua\u00e7u Celulose, headquartered in the city of S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 dos Pinhais, in the state of Paran\u00e1, aims to expand its client portfolio in the Arab market. Syria is already among the main destinations for company exports, and it already sells to Egypt, in North Africa. <\/p>\n
"Exports to the region [the Arab countries] were boosted after 2007 and the predominant destination is Syria," said commercial manager Oldair Jos\u00e9 Dominski. According to him, the product most sold to the Arab market was unbleached long-fibre pulp. "Extensible Kraft paper, for bags and multi-layer bags were also exported to the region," he finished off. Expansible Kraft paper has elasticity as its main characteristic whereas multi-layer bags are paper bags made using several layers of paper.<\/p>\n
Most of the sales are through trading companies. According to the manager, current company revenues are approximately US$ 175 million, with exports representing 30%. According to Dominski, the company’s foreign sales began in 1990. Among the main destinations, apart from Syria, are Argentina, Paraguay, Venezuela, Mexico, the United States, China, Togo and South Africa.<\/p>\n
Igua\u00e7u Celulose was established in 1981, produces 206,000 tonnes a year, distributed in unbleached long-fibre pulp, groundwood pulp, special paper, Kraft paper for bags and multi-layer bags. The company generates 1,100 direct jobs in its four factories, of which two are in Paran\u00e1 and another two in Santa Catarina.<\/p>\n
The company is part of Imaribo Group, which has been in the market since 1943, the year in which Rio Bonito Lumber Industry was established, in Santa Catarina. Apart from the lumber sector, the group also works in the area of vehicle distribution and reforestation.<\/p>\n
