S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The ministers of Foreign Relations of Sudan, Ali Ahmed Karti, and Celso Amorim, of Brazil, signed agreements this Wednesday (24th), in Bras\u00edlia, for establishing a mixed commission, providing for multidisciplinary meetings between the two countries, and for tax exemption in diplomatic, official and services passports. <\/p>\n
Karti was received by Amorim over a working luncheon. Aside from the agreements, the ministers discussed the political situation in Sudan and how Brazil may aid in the electoral issue in the country, which should hold a plebiscite, in January, to decide whether the African country’s territory will or not be divided in two.<\/p>\n
According to information supplied by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry (Itamaraty), the country should send a mission of observers to Sudan in order to help in the election process. The referendum is a demand of the country’s Southern portion, which is oil-rich and seeks independence.<\/p>\n
The ministers have also addressed matters such as entrepreneurial and commercial missions. Karti was also with the Brazilian minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Miguel Jorge, the executive secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Jos\u00e9 Gerardo Fontelles, and the minister of Defence, Nelson Jobim.<\/p>\n
During his visit to Brazil, Karti should also travel to Belo Horizonte and S\u00e3o Paulo, where he will be received by the board of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/b>. He will stay in the country until next Friday (26th).<\/p>\n
