S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Company Casa Gl\u00f3ria, headquartered in Florian\u00f3polis, the capital of the state of Santa Catarina, bets on the exotic flavour of Brazilian tropical fruit, like soursop, cupuassu, caj\u00e1, assai and passion fruit, eyeing the foreign market. With annual production of around 20,000 tonnes, the owners at the company, who also operate in the field of civil construction, are establishing a trading company exclusively to take care of foreign business.<\/p>\n
"We are starting to research and seek opportunities abroad. We already have a contact in New York and Sweden. We already know of the great potential of the Arab market, but have not yet made any contact in the region," said Itacir Poser, the company owner.<\/p>\n
According to figures disclosed by the Brazilian Fruit Institute (Ibraf), Brazil exports mangoes, grapes, oranges and tangerines to the Arab world. Countries like the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar have been registering expressive growth in the consumption of fruit and juice, due to factors like the warm climate, high buying power and growing immigration of Europeans and Asians, who are great consumers of tropical fruit.<\/p>\n
In September, for example, importers from Oman and from the Emirates participated in business roundtables at Fruit & Tech, which took place in S\u00e3o Paulo. As informed by ANBA at the time, representatives of companies Abdul Fatah Mohd Noor Co., from Oman, and Interworld Foods, from the Emirates, came to Brazil seeking fruit like grapes, apples, peaches, cherries and strawberries.<\/p>\n
According to the businessman, Casa Gl\u00f3ria farms, located in the cities of Presidente Tancredo Neves and Valen\u00e7a, in the state of Bahia, also produce mangoes, guava and oranges, and generate around 100 direct jobs.<\/p>\n
"Our intention is to export mashed fruit, especially tropical ones, our greatest differential abroad," he said. "As we have many partners producing in the region [northeastern Brazil], we may immediately supply great demand," he finished off.<\/p>\n
On the domestic market, the fruit is sold in the states of Bahia, Pernambuco, Par\u00e1, Acre and Paran\u00e1.<\/p>\n
